Acute Infections & Illnesses FAQs

Should I go to the doctor for a cold?

If you’re considering when to see a doctor for a cold or other illness, it’s already time to schedule a sick visit with your provider at Cranberry Health Partners. While the common cold usually resolves on its own, sometimes cold-like symptoms can be signs of a different condition that requires medical attention. In general, if you’re experiencing severe or persistent symptoms, it’s best to make an appointment with your doctor.

How do I know when to go to urgent care vs primary care?

For life-threatening or severe issues, please call 911 or head to the nearest emergency room as soon as possible.

For illnesses and injuries that are not severe but should still be seen by your doctor, please schedule an appointment at our office. If our office is closed and you cannot wait, visit an urgent care center. Urgent care centers are equipped to handle non-life-threatening conditions and can provide treatment outside of regular office hours, though your primary care provider is the best option when available.

Can I schedule a sick visit for my child?

Yes! As family medicine specialists, we are equipped to provide compassionate, comprehensive care for patients of all ages. If your child is experiencing persistent symptoms, don't hesitate to schedule a sick visit with us.
